Canterbury tennis player Ellen Barry, is set for a rankings jump in the area of almost 100 places after two fantastic weeks.
Although defeated in the final of the ITF $25k Women’s event being played in Kalgoorlie West Australia, Barry is expected to jump to 326 in the WTA rankings, after her victory at the ASB Pro Circuit event in Hamilton last week, and the final in West Australia this week. This will outdo her previous career best of 370. With no points to defend until July, more progress is available if Barry can take her form from Hamilton and Kalgoorlie and keep the momentum going.
Barry was not available for comment after her final, to discuss her 57 26 loss to emerging Chinese player Yi Miao-Zhou, or her excellent recent form, as she was on a train to Perth, where she will contest the Sorrento ITF US$25k Pro Circuit event which takes place this week.
